A new milestone in the European Union’s partnership with Algeria regarding energy, industry, and the shift toward a more sustainable economy will be finalized during the 14th edition of the North Africa Energy & Hydrogen Exhibition and Conference (NAPEC) 2026, which opens Sunday in Oran.
The European Union will participate for the very first time in this major energy sector gathering, the EU Delegation to Algeria announced on Friday in an official statement, emphasizing that through this engagement, the EU “will showcase its vision for a gradual, inclusive energy transition generating opportunities, particularly in renewable energy, energy efficiency, hydrogen, and emissions reduction.”
“NAPEC 2026 will serve as an occasion to reaffirm the EU’s dedication to energy cooperation with Algeria grounded in dialogue, innovation, investment, and mutual interest,” the same source noted, adding that this presence also aims to foster exchanges between public and private stakeholders, support the emergence of innovative ventures, and build stronger synergies between European and Algerian enterprises.
European Union Ambassador to Algeria, Diego Mellado Pascua, who highlighted Algeria’s position as a “reliable partner for the European Union,” underscored the significance of attending NAPEC. It demonstrates, he stated, “our commitment to deepening our cooperation with Algeria within the energy sector.” He added that “confronted with the challenges of the energy transition, consolidating our long-term, future-focused partnership with Algeria centered on innovation remains essential for the benefit of our citizens and economies.”
The European Union’s involvement will center on several key moments, according to the ambassador, who highlighted “high-level institutional meetings” and “thematic sessions covering key energy transition challenges,” alongside an exhibition booth dedicated to initiatives, programs, and projects supported by the EU and its member states within Algeria and the broader Mediterranean region.
Among the featured initiatives will be the TaqatHy+ program, focused on developing the renewable hydrogen value chain, as well as regional dynamics driven by the Pact for the Mediterranean and T-MED (Trans-Mediterranean Renewable Energy and Clean Tech Cooperation Initiative), a Euro-Mediterranean cooperative effort highlighting primary drivers of the clean energy transition.
A specialized conference focusing on renewable energy investment is also scheduled on the agenda. It will provide momentum for dialogue among public actors, financial institutions, and industrial partners to pinpoint mechanisms capable of accelerating the rollout of concrete projects serving a sustainable, inclusive energy transition.
For the EU Delegation to Algeria, this participation at NAPEC 2026 “confirms its determination to turn its partnership with Algeria into a driver for energy security, low-carbon transition, and shared sustainable growth.”
